Brachioplasty, commonly known as an Arm Lift, attempts to procure a more natural and youthful look by removing the fat and excess skin hanging down from the underarms. This is most commonly requested by women, but some men opt to have this procedure as well. An Arm Lift is often performed on post-bariatric surgery patients who have lost large amounts of weight in a short amount of time. The procedure helps to relieve patients’ self-consciousness in wearing short sleeves or otherwise showing their arms.

During the Arm Lift procedure, the incision is made beneath the arm and can extend from the elbow to the armpit, varying upon how much skin must be removed. The skin and fat are then removed.

This procedure will leave a scar that could be noticeable. However, the scar is adjusted so that it runs on the inside surface of the underneath of the arm. The scars will typically become less inconspicuous after six months to a year. However, patients need to be aware that they are essentially trading “skin for scars” with this procedure.

The initial recovery time for this procedure is short. While results may vary, the patient may return to light work within one to two weeks.  Exercise will wait another two weeks.*

Major weight loss achieved through either natural means or bariatric surgery is a great accomplishment that allows patients to significantly improve their appearance and overall quality of life, while also reducing the risk of weight-related health conditions.

After large amounts of weight loss, many patients are left with loose, hanging skin that has been stretched out by the excess weight and does not conform to the body’s new contours. There may also be one or more problem areas that has not responded well to weight loss methods and still contains localized areas of stubborn fat.

Many patients seek body contouring procedures to complete the weight loss process and achieve a smooth, toned appearance that they will be proud to show off. Body contouring procedures often target problem areas such as the:

  • bodycontAbdomen
  • Buttocks
  • Thighs
  • Breasts
  • Arms
  • Face

Multiple procedures may be needed in order to achieve desired results and to reduce the trauma of treating several different body areas at once. Dr. Kelley will develop a personalized treatment plan for you based on your individual needs and goals for surgery.

Body contouring procedures are generally considered safe, especially when performed by an experienced surgeon. It is important for patients to be in good overall health, at a stable weight and to maintain realistic expectations for surgery. These procedures cannot serve as a means for significant weight loss, but instead reduce the appearance of loose, sagging skin for a smoother body contour.

The underlying concept in Gluteal Reshaping is volume redistribution – removing fat from areas in which it is excessive to augment (enlarge) areas that would benefit aesthetically.
Even patients with extremely large buttocks can benefit from reshaping. Although you are adding volume, their buttocks dpk_Gluteal_Augmentationappear smaller and shapelier. In these patients it is gluteal sculpting rather than buttock enlargement.
But for those patients in whom volume is poorly distributed, changing shape requires volume rearrangement and
enlargement.
You will be required to avoid prolonged sitting for 10 days to avoid damaging the fat. A protective post-surgical garment will be worn for 4 weeks. By improving the waist, the results can be dramatic.

A Lipoabdominoplasty tightens the abdominal walls and liporemoves excess skin to create a flatter contour of the abdomen. This procedure is popular with mothers after childbearing and for women who may get pregnant in the future. Vaser Lipoplasty and Liposuction are used in combination with a Tummy Tuck. Anyone who has difficulty reducing abdominal fat and increasing tone despite frequent exercise is a good candidate for this surgery.

The Lipoabdominoplasty procedure is performed under general anesthesia and begins with an incision along the bikini-line. Once the abdominal walls have been strengthened and repositioned, the skin flap is pulled down, stretched and closed.  Supplemental Liposuction is frequently used in combination with a tummy tuck to smooth the transition between the new locations of the skin. The belly button is then reattached. The belly button can frequently be left attached to the skin without scarring.

The procedure is moderately invasive and requires several weeks of recovery before returning to work and a few more week before exercise can be returned to.

dpk_mommy_makeoverMotherhood can be one of the most rewarding experiences in a woman’s life. Watching your children grow and nurturing them each step of the way is a fascinating journey, but also a tough one. Being a mom often means completely devoting yourself to your family to ensure their health and happiness at all times. But moms can sometimes devote themselves so completely that they may lose their own identities and feelings of self-importance.

There’s no denying that motherhood takes its toll on their bodies. From the lingering effects of childbirth to the stress and worry we put on it each day, a woman’s body changes as she matures into motherhood. But there’s no reason why we can’t restore our bodies back to how they were before children. Cosmetic procedures are safer and easier than ever before, and even designed to improve upon the natural changes of a mother’s body.

Mommy Makeovers are specially designed cosmetic procedures for the abdomen and breast that can help you feel youthful and renewed after maternity, without long and painful recovery times. We know that family comes first, but it’s important for mommies to feel as good about themselves as they do about their growing families. Our procedures will fit into your schedule and your budget, but will leave you with a new outlook that will reflect in even the smallest of your motherly duties. A Mommy Makeover is a simple step that can help you and your family feel so much more confident about each exciting and challenging day. Call today for a consultation.

Spider Vein Treatments (Sclerotherapy) is a procedure used to spidervientreat spider veins by injecting a solution into the veins which causes them to gradually disappear. By injecting a salt solution, known as a sclerosing solution, the lining of the veins become irritated and eventually turn into scar tissue that then fades away. This method is the preferred treatment for spider veins and has been used since the 1930s.

This procedure is usually performed in Dr. Kelley’s office and takes no more than 30 minutes. Most patients need 2 to 4 treatments in order to achieve desired results. There is no downtime other than avoiding strenuous activities for the first 2 to 3 days.

While Sclerotherapy (Spider Vein Treatments) is proven as an effective treatment for spider veins, it is not recommended for everybody. Pregnant women and those whose saphenous veins are affected are not typically eligible for this procedure. Sclerotherapy is not effective for large varicose veins and is only recommended for smaller, superficial veins. Talk to Dr. Kelley to find out if Sclerotherapy is right for you.

thighA Thigh Lift is performed to tighten the skin around the inner thigh to form a more aesthetically pleasing frame. The outer thigh is generally not targeted in a Thigh Lift as liposuction tends to produce better results in that area of the leg.

This procedure requires a surgical incision of varying size based on how much skin must be removed. The location of the incision is usually on the medial side of the thigh and will be adjusted based upon the extent of skin laxity.

Discomfort is generally minimal in smaller lifts, but when large amounts of skin are removed, an overnight stay in the hospital may be required.

Light labor is normally possible after two weeks, while most physical activity is permissible at four to six weeks. All symptoms should be gone and scars maximally faded within six to twelve months.

Labiaplasty

Childbirth or aging can cause enlargement or misshaping of the labia. For other women, the shape and size of their labia is a condition they are born with.
This procedure, the most common of vaginal aesthetic surgeries, involves reducing the size and protrusion of the inner lips or labia minora. Labiaplasty may be performed by either removing redundant labial tissue along the ruffled edge or as pie-wedge resection.

Labia Majora Reduction

This procedure removes the excess skin and tissue from the outer lips of the vulva. A wedge of tissue is removed from the labia majora and the incision is usually hidden on the inner edge of the labia.

Clitoral Hood Reduction

Excess protrusive tissue is removed from the hood overlying the clitoris. After trimming off the excess bulk, the clitoral hood is reshaped to achieve a more aesthetic appearance.

Mons Pubis Reduction

Excess bulkiness of the mons is removed using either liposuction and/or surgical resection to achieve an appearance that is proportional to the patient. The incisions are usually hidden in the natural folds and creases of the mons.

Mons Pubis Enhancement

Loss of volume of the mons, commonly associated with aging, is corrected by re-inflating the mons. Fat grafting, using the patient’s own fat harvested from elsewhere in the body, is used to refill and reshape the mons. In some instances, soft-tissue fillers instead of fat grafting are used to enhance the appearance and fullness of the mons.

Labia Majora Enhancement

Loss of volume of the labia majora, most frequently associated with aging, is addressed by filling the labia majora with soft-tissue fillers or fat grafting. This procedure often can be performed using local anesthetic.

Patients seeking to tone targeted areas of the body, which are unresponsive vaser-lipo-logoto diet and exercise, have turned to liposuction for many years as an effective option to achieve their desired body contour. While effective in producing a slimmer appearance, patients often experienced “lumpy” results and long recovery times due to the destruction of nearby nerves, blood vessels and other tissues in the treated area. Now, patients can achieve their desired results with faster and safer method using targeted fat reduction with VASER® Lipo.

The unique VASER® Lipo treatment combines new patented technology with advanced surgical techniques to gently dissolve and remove excess fatty tissue from the abdomen, hips, “love handles,” “saddlebags,” thighs, arms, back, knees, neck and chin. The VASER® Lipo procedure uses ultrasound energy to eliminate fat while leaving nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue largely undisturbed. Without damage to this tissue, patients experience little pain and achieve much smoother results than with traditional liposuction.

Candidates for VASER® Liposuction

The ideal candidate is someone who is in good overall health and maintains a healthy lifestyle, but has one or more problem areas with unresponsive fat deposits. It is also important for patients to have realistic expectations, and remember that liposuction cannot be used as a means for major weight loss. It is instead used to remove localized areas of stubborn fat after the patient has attempted other natural weight loss methods. VASER® Liposuction can be used to treat localized fat deposits within the:

  • dpk_lipoThighs
  • Abdomen
  • Arms
  • Back
  • Hips
  • Buttocks
  • Chest
  • Face
  • Calves
  • Ankles

This procedure may be performed alone, or can be combined with other cosmetic procedures, such as a Face Lift, Breast Reduction or Tummy Tuck, to achieve maximum results.

VASER® Lipo Procedure

During the VASER® Lipo procedure, the area to be sculpted is filled with a special saline solution that makes the fatty tissue easier to dissolve. The VASER® System also includes epinephrine, which shrinks blood vessels to help reduce bleeding and bruising.  A thin probe is then inserted to soften and break up fatty tissue on contact using ultrasound waves. Suction of the sculpted site removes emulsified fat, while leaving surrounding tissue relatively intact.

VASER® Lipo is performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia.  Multiple body areas can be treated during each treatment session. Dr. Kelley will develop a customized treatment plan for you in order to produce the most effective results in the least invasive manner.

Recovery From VASER® Lipo

recoveryfrom vaserThe VASER® system’s ultrasound technology causes minimal disturbance to important structural tissue, yielding smooth and shapely contouring. After the procedure, patients may experience minimal discomfort and should expect some fluid drainage from the incisions as well as body swelling due to infusion fluids used during the procedure.

Patients will wear a compression garment home from the procedure and may be required to wear this garment (under clothing) for two to six weeks post-operatively, depending upon the body area(s) treated and the amount of fat removed. This will provide comfort and support and will help the skin to better fit your new contours.

Anticipated recovery time varies with the extent of the procedure – the amount of fat removed, the number of areas treated, and so forth. Under physician guidance, with the exception of some activity restrictions such as heavy lifting, patients may be able to return to normal activities within days.

Results Of VASER® Lipo

Results of the VASER® Lipo procedure are often visible immediately after treatment, but will continue to improve over the next few months as the skin progressively tightens. During this time, it is essential to keep your follow-up appointments so Dr. Kelley can monitor your progress.*

If a patient gains weight after their procedure, the weight will be distributed evenly throughout the body, and will not return to the treated area since fat cells were permanently removed. With a proper diet, regular exercise and realistic expectations, most patients are highly satisfied with the results of their VASER® Lipo treatment.*

Risks

Although VASER® Liposuction is considered safe, there are certain risks associated with any type of procedure. Some of these risks may include infection, scarring, allergic reactions, or hematoma. VASER® Liposuction is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures and is almost always performed with no serious complications.

You can minimize potential risks by choosing an experienced doctor and by following his/her instructions before and after your procedure.
